SFCC Spring Photo Contest

The spring SFCC photo contest is almost upon us, so we all need to start looking for those special images that we want to enter.  The competition will be held at the May 1 meeting and the results will be announced at the May 15th club banquet at Pizza Ranch.

For this competition, I would love to have images from every one of our members.  Some may feel as though they can’t compete because of their equipment, or they are new to photography, or maybe they’re just apathetic.  Bad reasons, folks.  We see plenty of first rate images from brand new members, from point and shoot cameras, from octogenarians and from adolescents.  So there’s no excuse, let’s all participate.  It’s fun, it’s educational and it’s motivating to share your best stuff.  I can’t wait to see your images!

Remember, there are two digital categories, Digital Color and Digital Black & White. Each member can enter one image per category. The size and format requirements are the same as for N4C digital entry requirements (1024 pixels on the longest side, file-size less than 500KB, sRGB color space). Each image should be named in the following manner. The file name will begin with a “c” (for color) or “b” (for black and white)_Your Name_Title of Photo.jpg. For example: c_Amy Vander Vorste_My Girl.jpg.  If you find any of this confusing and need help let me know, or ask another member at the next meeting. Please email your photos to me, Keith Anderson, at kaamd@aol.com or bring the digital file to one of the next meetings. I really prefer to receive the images at least one week before the competition but if you’re late, I’ll do my best to include them.

As in the past, judging will be done by all the members attending the meeting.  At the banquet, I will present a slideshow of the  entries and judging results including any image critiques that the judges may include with their scores.

In choosing images for the competition, remember that the judging will be based on three factors: 1- Impact and Interest, 2 – Technique, and 3 – Composition - resulting in a single judging score of 1–10 points.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st ($35 gift certificate), 2nd ($25 gift certificate), 3rd ($15 gift certificate) and there will be two Honorable Mentions in each category.  Please note that if you’re new, you must have paid your dues to be eligible to win.
