PHOTOGRAPHY 101 by Don McLeer
“Photography 101″, presented by Don McLeer, is a 2 week seminar which will touch on the basics of photography, and will help the casual photographer step outside the automatic “green mode” of their camera.
The first session will revolve around the basic principles of the exposure triangle: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. The lesson will delve into each piece of the exposure triangle to help attendees better understand their camera and push the limits of what their camera can achieve. This session is geared toward anyone from the novice looking to be more comfortable stepping out of auto-exposure settings, to the professional looking for a refresher of the basics.
Photographers with an SLR type camera (or a camera where exposure settings can be adjusted manually) will gain the most from the session. However, anyone with any type of camera will also benefit from the knowledge as well as discussion of stronger composition and telling a story with an image.
Armed with this knowledge, attendees will be given an assignment based on a theme. The group will meet again two weeks later for an open discussion about the strengths of their photos, what inspired their image, and how they applied the knowledge learned during the first part of the seminar. The feedback session will be a nurturing, fun-filled opportunity to improve photography skills, and gain valuable experience thinking critically about the photographic process.
If you would like to bring your camera, you are welcomed to do so, however, Don will not be able to go through the specifics of each camera make/model.
